Adult ADHD · Our specialty

Adults who always suspected. And adults whose meds stopped fitting.

A careful, unhurried evaluation for adult ADHD — with objective cognitive testing, comorbidity screening, and a long-term relationship. Not a one-visit diagnosis and goodbye.

  • ✓ Never-diagnosed adults welcome
  • ✓ Stimulant & non-stimulant options
  • ✓ Most seen within one week

Who we see

Most of our ADHD patients arrive with one of these stories.

"I was told I'd grow out of it — and I didn't."

Diagnosed as a kid, unmedicated as an adult, and now realizing the executive-function issues never actually left. Common. Treatable.

"I got through school on adrenaline. Work broke me."

Late-discovered ADHD is especially common in high-achieving adults. The structure of school masked it; an open calendar exposes it.

"I think I have it. I've never been evaluated."

We do comprehensive adult evaluations — including objective cognitive testing, not just a symptom checklist. Insurance-covered.

"My current meds don't feel right."

Wrong dose, wrong compound, wrong timing — one of the three is almost always the issue. Optimization is our craft.

"It's ADHD plus anxiety plus trauma."

Comorbidity is the rule, not the exception. We treat the whole picture.

"I'm postpartum / perimenopausal and everything fell apart."

Hormonal shifts unmask ADHD for many women. You're not imagining it. We hear it every week.

The evaluation

A real evaluation — not a 20-minute checklist.

Diagnosis matters. We take the time to get it right — and to rule out (or name) what else is going on.

  • 01myJourney intake at homeMedical, psychiatric, developmental, family history. Daily patterns. Sleep, substances, stressors. 20–30 min.
  • 02Medical Historian SessionA 30–60 min call with our clinical team before your first visit — so your provider walks in already knowing your story.
  • 0360-minute first visit, in personWe go through your story, discuss differential diagnoses, and sketch a plan together.
  • 04Treatment beginsMedication (if indicated), therapy, or both. Stimulants, non-stimulants, or a non-medication path — your choice, made together.
  • 05Ongoing optimizationFirst follow-up at 2–4 weeks. Dose adjustments, side-effect review, and longer-arc planning. Not a one-and-done.

Treatment

We work with every tool — responsibly.

There is no "one right medication" for ADHD. Matching the compound, dose, and schedule to your life is the work. Here's what we prescribe when it fits.

Stimulants

First-line for most adults.

  • Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin)
  • Amphetamine (Adderall IR/XR, Vyvanse, Mydayis)
  • IR/XR/LA formulations matched to your day

We prescribe carefully — CURES-checked, minimum effective dose, open conversations about sleep, appetite, and cardiovascular health.

Non-stimulants

When stimulants aren't the fit.

  • Atomoxetine (Strattera)
  • Guanfacine ER, clonidine
  • Bupropion (especially with depression)

Useful for patients with anxiety, cardiovascular concerns, substance history, or side-effect sensitivity to stimulants.

Non-medication

Not everyone wants medication.

  • Sleep protocol & circadian repair
  • Executive-function coaching referrals
  • Lifestyle psychiatry (movement, nutrition, caffeine)
  • Therapy integration

Some patients choose to try non-medication approaches first, or alongside. We support that.

Insurance

We take most major plans.

Anthem Blue Cross · Aetna · most out-of-state BCBS. We verify your specific plan within 1–2 business days of your application — before you commit.

Out of network: Blue Shield of California, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Kaiser, Medi-Cal, Medicare.

FAQ

ADHD, specifically.

The questions we hear on nearly every intake call.

Do you prescribe controlled stimulants?

Yes, when appropriate. Chelsea routinely prescribes Adderall, Vyvanse, Concerta, Focalin, and others. We're a California-licensed practice using CURES and standard responsible-prescribing protocols.

I was diagnosed as a child. Can you continue my prescription?

Yes. Bring your records. We still require one comprehensive intake (for safety and continuity), and then we can continue your care — usually without any interruption in prescription.

I've never been evaluated. Can you diagnose me?

Yes — this is a large portion of our practice. A comprehensive adult ADHD evaluation includes myJourney history, a Medical Historian Session, and a 60-minute clinical visit, and ruling out other causes of attention/executive-function symptoms (sleep disorders, thyroid, trauma, anxiety, depression, etc.).

How long before I get medication?

For most patients, we begin medication (if indicated) at the first visit or shortly after. We then schedule a 2–4 week follow-up to assess response and refine dose.

What if I don't want stimulants?

Totally fine. We often start with non-stimulants (atomoxetine, guanfacine, bupropion) or non-medication approaches — especially with co-occurring anxiety or a personal/family history that makes stimulants the wrong first step.

Does insurance cover ADHD evaluation and treatment?

For in-network patients (Anthem, Aetna, most BCBS): yes — psychiatric evaluation and medication care are covered benefits. We verify your specific copay and deductible before intake.

What is Creyos?

Creyos is a validated online cognitive assessment measuring attention, working memory, planning, and reasoning. We use it with established patients when clinically indicated — it is not part of the initial evaluation.
